Back in July, we shared that BPC Quantity Surveyor Mike Shepherd had entered the 2025 Chester Marathon.
Mike has been on an amazing journey since 2023, when he decided to ditch the booze, head for the gym and get himself in shape. In 2024 he completed his first marathon and, this year, decided to dedicate his second to raising money for Prostate Cancer UK.
It’s fair to say that Mike smashed it! He completed the course in a seriously impressive 3 hours 31 minutes – an incredible improvement over last year, when he crossed the finish line in just over 5 hours. This time he was accompanied by Overbury’s Soul Lyn (pictured with Mike) who also put in a sterling effort.
Mike and Soul have raised just over £1,500 so far, which will pay for at least three crucial CT scans. As Mike says, “If that helps someone out, then it was all worthwhile’.
Something tells us Mike might have got the marathon bug. “I’m not going to stop now,” he tells us. “I’ll be right back in the saddle and registering for Manchester again in April 2026. I’m aiming to bring my times down even further whilst supporting another charity. Watch this space!”
