Helping to build stronger mental health
On 28 January, three members of the BPC Interiors Team attended a moving talk on mental health, organised by Overbury.
Neil Applegate (Health, Safety & Wellbeing Manager), Tom Knight (Projects Director) and Donna Whitehurst (Senior Site Secretary) were inspired by the session, which was led by Roman Kemp, mental health ambassador and trustee for Joe’s Buddy Line.
Joe’s Buddy Line was set up in loving memory of Roman’s best friend, Joe Lyons, who unfortunately died in 2020 after a struggle with his mental health. He was only 31 years old. The charity works to promote and protect the mental health of young people, from primary school to university. Roman has also presented a documentary, Our Silent Emergency, which explores the mental health and suicide crisis affecting young men.
Roman spoke with great passion about how we can all support the mental health of those around us. Just checking in with friends and workmates can help give others much needed hope and comfort.
Neil, Donna and Tom were delighted to support the event and learned so much from it. Mental health issues are far too common in our industry, and we’re committed to helping our colleagues to help each other.
Thank you to Roman for his talk, and thank you to Overbury for organising the event. To learn more about Joe’s Buddy Line, visit www.joesbuddyline.org
